Guys.., this is my first YouTube post. It's a screen shot of the Korg DS-10 with an audio file playing. This is a Hip Hop song I created using the DS-10 music software for the Nintendo DS. Sorry it's not arranger related, but this was HARD as HELL to create guys. EVERY patch you hear (including every part of the drum kit) had to be created from scratch (a lot of tweeking). Anyways...., I've gotten quite a few private emails about the DS-10 from members here so check out the vid and you'll hear what it can do. Again.., it's Hip Hop (no rapping), but the beat is quite nice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=td3HqlOTEM4

Thanks man! I'm pretty proud of that one. What I posted is original work..., no sampling, ect. You rarely hear people doing that today in this music style. I had to create the bass drum, hi-hat, snare, tom zap, bass patch, and lead patch. I then had to go into detail edits to get other things to happen. Such as adjusting gate time, panning, velocity, ect on individual notes. I even got my wife's attention on this one

D***IT! .... I think I'm getting old Nice work, and well done programming, but honesty, it's not my favourite type of music. So why did I bother post? Well, just to say I thinks you do great, and that some years ago when Chuck Berry, Elvis, Beatles, Stones, Who etc. "hijacked" the radio stations here, my parents / grandparents generation probably had the same relationship to the "new" music as I have to the HipHop and some of the other music styles nowadays. But ... it looks like the younger people of today listen and likes much more of the late 50's - 80's music than my generation do listen to the 20's- early 50's, so keep on the good work, you and your music might be on the "top of the pops" of the next generations lists! "Sorry it's not arranger related" you say.... Sure it is! If the equipment you use isn't an arranger, what are? You just proved it is. Happy Playing & Programming GJ

My collection has., Jazz, Blues, Country, BigBand, Swing, Classical, Rock, Alternative, Pop, Hip Hop, RnB, and even some Rap. I pretty much like everything I guess

Thanks fellas Cassp.., what you have to take into consideration is that the DS-10 is a pocket version of the Korg MS-10 analogue synth from 1978. However, with current technology the DS allows you to do things that were not possible with the original synth such as saving custom patches... Korg then brings the MS-10 into current times by adding a 4 part analogue 16 step drum machine too (where each part of the drum track is fully editable). Together you have two analogue synth emulators (each emulator capable of having 2 osc), add the drum machine and you got a 6 track step sequencer with 2 synth parts and 4 drum parts. It goes even further and gives you Kaoss pad control. It just makes so much sense for this thing to have a built in Kaoss pad considering the DS uses a touch screen. These types of apps are going to do very well in the electronica area. I've heard some pretty decent covers done on the Tube using the DS-10, but of course many of those are "Remixed Electronic" versions. However, for the money you can't beat this little thing. Got the app for $36.00 My wife isn't the biggest Hip Hop fan either, but I got her attention last night when I wrote this little song. She really likes the second half of it.., and is shocked I pulled this off on a Nintendo DS. It took a lot of editing to get the kit to sound like that too. The bass drum, hi-hat, and snare (on default) sound nothing like this. If you want to get the type of kit I used on this you're gonna have to tweek it (which is fun and rewarding too) The bass patch and lead patch are also user tweeks. Thanks Pasadoble glad you liked it. I know it's not everyone's taste of music here, but by posting this it shows how using some creativity can really pay off. Plus this was done on a Nintendo DS game system of all things using a "pocket synth" app from Korg and XSeed Games----not to mention the app cost $36.00 too If you guys heard the default kit before I tweeked it you'd really understand how tweekable this thing is...... The bass drum and snare are so far from the default it's not even funny. Hmmmm.... what offering????? [This message has been edited by squeak_D (edited 12-26-2008).]

Pasadoble.., great song man! That sax sounded nice Linda..., I totally understand what you mean about your S700 being unhip. I realized a very long time ago that no arranger is going to pull off hip hop. They just don't have the sounds (both kits and patches for it). Also..., arrangers sequencers both song and style do not work well for this either. You really need a dedicated pattern sequencer with the ability to "patter chain". I remember the Amiga's.. Wow.., wasn't that back in the late 80's and early 90's? If you get the DS Linda.., I'll pass you my edits for that kit I used.

I totally understand what you mean about melody, however you have to take into consideration the limitations of this application and what you have to work with. Although they packed a lot into this thing you're really only working with like (one measure patterns). Also this isn't a (lead) type composition either. When writing this I had the idea of someone "flowing" over the beat. I could go all out and make a melody for it though. Maybe I'll tackle that next
